It affirmed that the envoy was kidnapped on Thursday after he left the Sierra Leone Mission in Abuja to attend a military graduation ceremony in Kaduna.
An official of the Embassy who did not want his name in print told our correspondent that the kidnappers called at about At 4. 15 am on Friday, while the Embassy’s accountant received the strange phone call.
It was obvious that the Kidnapped Deputy Comissioner gave the kidnappers the phone number of the officials who his captives felt would be in the best position to rally round to get the ransom paid on time.
The Embassy official said, “They placed Nelson-Williams on the line and after he identified himself to the accountant, the Kidnappers came back on the line and informed that he was in their custody and they had kidnapped him and wanted a ransom demand of around N44 million Naira (about $150,000)”
He added, “The kidnappers have now called the Embassy twice this morning threatening unsavory outcome if their ransom demand is not met.
He said “One of the calls had Nelson Williams sounding very low and frightened”
He said the whereabouts of his driver (and those he was supposed to be with on the said trip), is presently unknown.%
